Rain has been pouring hard for the past few days, but God is good, and on the day I set to surprise my boyfriend, it was pretty sunny. His childhood dream was to become a pilot, so I got us a reservation for two at Angeles City Flying Club (ACFC).
ACFC is a flying club, which happens to be a flying school too. It promotes ultralight flying in the country. The place is a bit far from the city proper but worry not if you don’t have a car because they have a shuttle that can pick you up at KFC Dau. Just inform the contact person ahead of time. Hence, commuting is actually a good alternative.
Our day
started early. I reserved us a 10:30 AM “flight.” My boyfriend, Neil, and I met
at 5 o’clock in the morning. We took a Five Star bus heading to Dau. After an
hour and a half of travel, we were already at Dau Bus Terminal. We were still
able to have breakfast while waiting for the shuttle. At exactly 7 AM, a white
L300 van with the ACFC logo fetched us. It took us
30 minutes before we finally reached our destination. Excitement kicked in when
we saw a plane taxiing the grassy runway.
This was just parked here. I guess it was really for photo ops. LOL!
We availed of the 10-minute Ultralight Introductory Flight which cost us 1,848 PhP per person. Only two are allowed in the plane – the pilot and yourself – so the others have to wait for their turn. Hence, no tandem flying with boyfie. *sad face*
What a great view! Hello, Pampanga, we are 500 ft. above you!
During the
course of my flight, I was lucky enough to experience being covered with clouds
– yes, in an open cockpit plane – it was really cool. I don't care if I looked stupid
(which was captured on video, by the way), while I was trying to hold the
clouds that basically felt like fog. Haha!
(No judging, please. I bet you’d do the same. LOL!) After a few minutes of cruising 500 ft. above the ground, the
pilot, Capt. Max Guevarra, taught me how to maneuver the plane. Then, he let me put my feet on the pedals and hold the controller. I felt like a real lady
pilot!
But first, here's Neil on the controller!
Then, meee! Don't worry Capt. Guevarra, I got this!
The
Introductory Flight fee also comes with a one day membership at their club which
gives you the opportunity to use their pool and cottages. On our part though, we
didn’t avail of that, and left the place past 10 AM. They just radioed the
guard to get a tricycle that will bring us to the place where the jeepneys
heading back to Dau Bus Terminal pass. From there, we rode a bus back to Manila.
