Travelogue: Sunflower Maze in Tayug, Pangasinan

A day trip to Pangasinan is quite unthinkable given the 5-hour bus ride, but it actually is possible. The urge to witness the blooming sunflowers pushed Neil and I to leave the city at six in the morning on a Sunday. We boarded the Five Star bus to Tayug, Pangasinan, from their terminal in Cubao. After a few naps, we finally made it to our destination. Tayug was our bus's last stop, so from there, we rode a tricycle to the famous Sunflower Maze. The trip was more or less 30-minute long.

Upon arrival, we made our way to the registration area (left side) to pay the entrance fee. The allocated space for the plants was indeed huge. It was mainly divided into two, the Sunflower Maze and the Sunflower Labyrinth. However, during our visit, only the sunflowers at the labyrinth has bloomed.

As expected, since we went there on a weekend, there were a lot of people. From the registration area, we crossed the other side of the street and made our way inside. There was a wide array of stalls which sells food and refreshments. So, we decided to stuff our stomachs first, before entering the tunnel leading to the maze, because #FoodIsLife!

Since it's summer, as expected, the sun's heat was unbelievable! I was supposed to vlog the whole experience, but I was suddenly afraid for my camera's life because it was heating up like crazy. Even our GoPro didn't endure the heat. Hence, after taking some hopefully-awesome shots, we hid them immediately inside our bags. LOL! Luckily we, but mostly Neil, were able to get a number of wonderful snaps which are actually worth sharing. (Don't be fooled though - scroll down to know why!)

After the Sunflower experience, we were supposed to go to the neighboring town to see Maranum Falls. However, we didn't push through because it was already way past noon and it usually takes an hour to go there. Instead, we asked the tricycle driver to take us to any mall at the city. He dropped us off to the Magic Mall and that was where we ate our lunch. After which, we headed back to the bus terminal  and took the next trip to Manila.

The following photos are taken at the Sunflower Labyrinth..

While the photos below are taken at the Sunflower Maze, which hasn't bloomed yet during that time. (Check their schedule at the bottom of this post.)

If you still want to see the sunflowers up close, they are still in bloom until the 23rd of April (Sunday). It is definitely worth the visit. However, the truth is, trying to get a decent shot is quite difficult. You either need an editing skill, to remove other people from the photo, or patience, to wait for them to leave the spot you've been eyeing for that perfect shot. Oh, and remember, there are rules that should be followed while inside the maze, please don't break them. Give the sunflowers some love by showing them some respect, they make our day brighter after all.
