Achievement 101

I always believe in the quote "The best things come when you least expect them to." Expectations often lead to disappointments, so I try not to expect too much from anything. Hence, if the odds are in my favor, then I'm lucky. If they're not, then better luck next time.

Last 26th of July, I joined the Magdalo Run 2014, and I guess the universe aligned to help me achieve something I didn't quite expect.

The fun run was held at Bonifacio Global City and proceeds of the said event will go directly to the Armed Forces of the Philippines Educational Benefit System Office (AFP EBSO) to help support soldiers' orphans by providing them with scholarship grants. There were three distances to choose from - 3K, 5K, and 10K. Majority of my friends, myself included, chose to run the 3K distance.

Tropang K's 3K runners. Oh hello there kuyas. LOL!

Magdalo Run 2014 was my second fun run. The first I had was two years ago with a 5K distance. I wasn't conditioned before, so I ended up walking the last three kilometers. LOL.

Then, last year, my friend Gee Dee and I  started our jogging "advocacy" to achieve a sexy bod. We called it our #forsexiness cause. Haha! In the beginning, I was so excited to jog, I wanted to do it religiously. However, I wasn't able to keep up since I got a project for a reality TV show that lasted for three months.

Fortunately, I was able to go back to my healthy lifestyle last May of this year. I haven't really proved that jogging indeed increases one's stamina and endurance until the moment I found myself improving. (But no, I didn't notice my body getting sexy. LOL!) It started when I pushed myself to jog a 3K distance without stopping. At first, it was really hard not to stop and walk because I felt like my heart is about to explode and my knees about to give up. Eventually, my constant jogging, accompanied by a little self discipline, helped me progress. Mind over matter, I kept reminding myself. True enough, after a few jogs, I can already run a 3K nonstop. From that moment on, I tried to maintain my distance until eventually, I made it further.

Think of your objective. If you keep in mind that you can make it to your end point, then your body will follow.

The 3K distance route at BGC. I recorded my run using my favorite app, Endomondo.

Finally, my effort in challenging and pushing myself all paid off during the Magdalo Run 2014, when I got a medal and a finisher shirt for being on the top 10 of the 3K female category. I didn't even expect it because before the fun run started, the only thing I had mind was to run nonstop and finish the race. Proving myself that I can actually make it was already an accomplished mission, the medal was just a bonus.

I'm one of the fastest. Chos!

Indeed, everyone has a potential to excel in something. Remember, God has a plan and He knows what is best for you. You just have to believe in yourself and never ever give up! You might be surprised at what you can actually do.

I did it! Thank you, Lord :)
